Nursery Blog – Butterfly, Butterfly π¦
This week in Nursery we have been inspired by the beautiful book Butterfly, Butterfly by Petr HoráΔek. The children have been learning all about growth, change, and the beauty of butterflies!
π΅ Family Group Time
We explored movement and music by listening to Fantasy in C by Georg Philipp Telemann. The children said, “It sounds like butterflies!” and created their own graceful butterfly dances to match the music.
π¨ Symmetry Art
Using their prior knowledge, the children helped Mr Garth finish his half-painted butterfly wings to make them symmetrical! They carefully matched colours and patterns to complete the designs.
π¦ Understanding the World
With the help of life cycle props, the children discussed each stage of a butterfly’s life. This was especially exciting as we’ve been observing real caterpillars in our classroom as they grow into butterflies!
ποΈ Teacher-Led Learning
We looked closely at different insects and used natural materials and paint to recreate them. The children were so thoughtful in their designs and loved getting creative with nature!
π¬ PSHE
Our focus this week was on similarities, differences, and celebrating diversity. We talked about how we are all special and learned how to be kind and accepting of one another.
π€ Phonics Focus
The sound of the week was U! We explored this through fun games, rhymes, and activities that helped the children listen for and say the sound clearly.
π§ Think Equal
This week we practised speaking and listening as part of problem-solving. The children worked together to think of ideas and come up with plans to help their friends – showing brilliant teamwork!
Another fantastic week of learning, growing, and fluttering through new ideas in Nursery! π¦
